Handpass

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 17 June 2026

The short version

Handpass only collects what it needs to help you buy and sell second-hand near you — and we never sell your personal information. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the control you have over it. We handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. If anything here is unclear, email privacy@handpass.com.au and we will walk you through it.

What we collect

Account details: your name, email address and password when you sign up. Profile information: your display name, bio, avatar and the city or area you choose to show. Phone verification: a mobile number you verify so other people know you are a real person — we store that the number is verified, not your full call records. Listing content: the photos, titles, descriptions, prices and condition you add when you list an item, plus your messages, offers, deals and reviews. Location: an approximate area or set radius you choose, and, only with your permission, your device location to find listings nearby. Usage and device data: how you move through the app, the device and operating system you use, app version, IP address, and identifiers needed to send push notifications. We collect this directly from you or automatically as you use Handpass; where you sign in through a social provider, we receive the basic details you approve.

Why we use it

We use your information to run Handpass: to set up and secure your account, show your listings to people nearby, carry messages and offers between buyers and sellers, verify that profiles are real, and keep the marketplace honest. Your approximate location helps us rank listings local-first. We send you service messages — things like a new offer, a message, or a change to a deal — and notifications you have switched on. We use aggregated and de-identified data to understand how Handpass is used and to make it better. We never run an engagement-optimising algorithm on your behaviour, and we do not use dark patterns. We only use your information for the reasons set out here, or for a directly related reason you would reasonably expect.

Who we share it with

Other users see what is needed to make a deal work — your public profile, your listings, your approximate area, and your messages and reviews in the conversations you are part of. They do not see your email, your exact GPS coordinates or your verification details. Service providers help us operate Handpass under contract and only on our instructions: this includes our hosting and database provider (Supabase), our infrastructure and storage hosts, and our push-notification and analytics tools. We may disclose information where the law requires it, to respond to a valid request from an authority, or to protect the safety and rights of our users, the public or Handpass. We do not sell your personal information. The one exception to sharing for advertising is the Meta Pixel described under Cookies, which shares limited usage data with Meta to measure our own campaigns and only runs with your consent; aside from that, we do not share your information for anyone else's advertising.

Storage and security

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access — including encrypted connections, access controls and a password on your account. We hold your information only for as long as you have an account or as long as the law requires, then we take steps to delete or de-identify it. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute safety, but we treat your data as something we are looking after on your behalf, not something we own.

Overseas disclosure

Some of the providers that store and process Handpass data operate servers outside Australia. Where your information is handled overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected to a standard consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles. By using Handpass you acknowledge that your information may be stored or processed outside Australia for the purposes described in this policy.

Your rights

You can see and update most of your details directly in the app — your profile, your city, your listings and your notification settings are all yours to change. You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct anything that is wrong, and ask us to delete your account. Deleting your account soft-deletes your profile, hides your listings, withdraws your open offers and removes your user-only data such as favourites and saved searches. To make an access or correction request, or to exercise any other right, email privacy@handpass.com.au and we will verify it is really you before we act.

Cookies

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies for a few purposes. Essential cookies keep the site working and remember your preferences. With your consent, we also use product-analytics cookies (Amplitude) to understand how the site is used, and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel to measure how well our advertising performs — the Pixel sets cookies and shares limited information about your visit with Meta. Analytics and advertising cookies are optional: the first time you visit we ask whether to enable them, and you can decline. You can also control or clear cookies in your browser settings, though turning some off may break parts of the site. To change your choice at any time, manage your cookie preferences.

Children

Handpass is for people aged 18 and over and is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact privacy@handpass.com.au and we will delete it as soon as we can.

Changes to this policy

As Handpass grows or the law changes, we may update this policy. When we make a material change we will let you know through the app or by email and update the date at the top of this page. The version published here is the one that applies, so it is worth a look from time to time.

Contact and complaints

If you have a question, a request or a concern about how we handle your information, contact our privacy team at privacy@handpass.com.au. We aim to respond within ten business days and to resolve complaints fairly. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled a privacy matter, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
